"I am extremely disappointed in my experience with this facility and it is only because of my job requiring me to travel that I haven't moved to a different facility yet.
In October 2020 my unit was burglarized. I went to my unit on October 19, 2020, around 8:30 am and saw that someone other than myself had been in my unit. The lock was not broken and the door was not damaged. I am the only person that has both the passcode and the key to my unit. My guess was that the lock must have been picked. I was using the lock that I had received from Life Storage when I first rented my unit.
As soon as I noticed that several of my belongings were missing, I went to the front office where no one was available. It was close to 9:00 am. While I waited for someone to arrive to open the front office, I called customer service and reported the incident. Customer service directed me to call the insurance company to report the incident, which I did. The insurance company instructed me to file a police report, which I also did all while I was waiting for an employee to open the front office. Needless to say, having to wait in addition to realizing I had been robbed made me even more upset.
When the store manager finally arrived more than 30 minutes after the store was supposed to be open, she offered me the opportunity to move to a different unit. I agreed because I was supposed to be leaving town again for work on that day. I did my best to explain my situation and asked about security cameras, but I was told that the cameras are motion-sensor activated and that it would be difficult to find footage if I didn't know the exact date of the burglary.
As time has passed, my insurance claim has been denied because there was no evidence of forced entry despite the insurance adjuster telling me that another tenant had filed a similar claim around the same time that I did and that their unit was in the same row as mine. Also, I have called the storage facility again in an attempt to get more information about the security footage, but my phone call was never returned. I am extremely disappointed in how this experience has panned out. I feel that I was not taken seriously, especially once I had explained that the lock on my unit had not been broken. The manager acted as though it was impossible to pick the lock. I feel that more effort should have been placed into reviewing security footage since at least two burglaries had been reported. I also feel that despite the insurance company telling me that at least one other tenant had reported a similar crime, that more effort should have been put forth into reviewing my claim before they denied it.
My new unit is in what I believe to be a safer location, however, I am looking forward to the day when I am able to move my belongings out of Life Storage on Cox Rd in Gastoina, NC. I will never recommend this location to anyone."

"The pandemic has forced me to close my location. I recently asked friends to recommend me a few secure storage locations in the area. After learning about Life Storage, I spoke with Alicia on the phone. I told her about my concerns and my schedule prior to move in.
