The Guardian (U.K.) recently shared a brilliant travel horror story about a man who, upon racing to make a flight connection, was told he could not board the plane because his flight was delayed. Not the flight he was attempting to catch — the flight he had just completed.

“I’m sorry sir, that flight has been delayed,” the agent said. “You won’t make the connection.”

“But I made the connection — I’m here,” the traveler explained.

“But you cannot be,” the agent insisted.

He missed his flight.

The moral of the story: travel can be a real pain in the connection. Here are some of our favorite tips to help you save time, money and trouble when you’re on the road.
