I have been a customer at Life Storage-Katy for six years due to being out of the country. For the most part, I have been very pleased despite the constant price increases. Both Benny and JR have been most helpful with most matters and I do appreciate that part.
However, upon my arrival to the storage unit to remove my belongings for good (yay...🎉🎉), I realized that the entire second floor of building E was hot as hell. 😳 As you might imagine, with family and friends helping me to move, it was disappointing to say the least. During the whole week and half of the move-out, the AC unit in the 700 area STILL had not been repaired even though it was supposed to have been fixed on Monday, September 19th.
I have been paying $251 a month for technically, a "non-climate" controlled unit because honestly I really don't know how long the unit has been this way. If you don't periodically check (or have someone to check your storage), you might want to do so. That way, in instances such as this, you can hopefully be provided a courtesy credit of some sort before your valuables are ruined or compensated for your valuables if they are ruined.
"The prices change quickly after you get a unit so don’t be surprised if they your monthly fee prices goes up within a few months of having the unit. Was not happy about they didn’t explain that monthly fee able to go up even within a few months of having the unit. literally went up within 5 months of having the until. Could communicate better."

"My items were STOLEN out of my unit on 12/22/2020. Tiffany claimed that she contacted me by phone, but I did not get any voice messages. She claimed the unit had both locks cut ( my account was not paid for the month of Dec, why I had 2 locks) and the building was even damaged. She said the amount of damage wasn't high enough to send to collections, so they cut losses. I only found out about my items being stolen on 12/31 when I go online to pay my account for the month and the account was closed. I had no possible way of even accessing the unit because it was behind and my gate code would not work. Tiffany gave me the number to insurance and told me to go from there. She was extremely cold and no empathy about my items being stolen. I would find somewhere else to store my items ASAP...."

Customer service (on the phone) sounded just as repulsed as I felt and took it upon themselves to escalate the situation up to corporate. The VP up in NY agreed with me completely and apologized on their behalf. "When I initially rented from this facility I was extremely happy, as with everything else I initially experienced on that side of Houston. When I finally found a place to live that was actually bigger than a cracker box for the same price, I contacted Life Storage to notify them I would be moving out. I have spoke with so many about the move out policy, every person has a different version, I never get the same person, and they are "all managers" who work there.
So, I am going on another month with a unit I do not need, I have marked a stop payment with my credit card company."
"I would rather store my belongings on the corner of I-10 and Mason Road than give Life Storage my business in the future, especially #383 with Tiffany and Terry employed there. The lackadaisical attitude of these two women and the general disrespect was incredibly disappointing. Not only was I given a unit that was smaller than the unit I paid for, out of view of the security cameras, it had a burnt out light during move in, and a couple weeks later, the other went out. Basic math would tell you that a 10'x30' unit would be 300 square feet, but this unit was significantly truncated. This wasn't even the worst part...
Our unit was burglarized and although Tiffany claims she called me, I have no record of it. One would assume that a somewhat competent individual would make more than one attempt at correspondence. Upon entrance into our unit and identifying what was stolen, Tiffany said she had already called Fort Bend Sheriff's office and told me I didn't need to call 911. This was a huge red flag, but not as big as refusing to give me and Harris County Sheriff's deputy the CCTV footage.
I'm happy we moved out and into a different facility where we're actually treated with respect and feel secure. Upon checking out, Terry locked us out of the office and refused to check us out. Absolutely no sympathy after the situation we had dealt with just days before.
We're not even the first people who have had a similar situation regarding a lack of communication after a burglary. I hope people all over see this place for what it really is - a shady business with dolts."
