My belongings were in the climate controlled portion of the facility for exactly a month, and when I came back for them, EVERYTHING was covered in mouse feces.
My boxes had been chewed through, my furniture had been stained by mouse urine, and the entire second floor stinks of poop. Literally.
To the point that I think there may be someone living in a near by unit.
If that weren't bad enough, this location is extremely unsafe due to the mentally ill homeless people that will approach you as you are moving.
The management here are 2 teenage girls and an older woman that very obviously do not know what they are doing. They are unhelpful and disrespectful on every occasion we've spoken.

"I had gotten a 12 by 20 climate controlled unit at life storage for my business thinking It would be a pleasant experience like before when I used to use this same facility. Not. The new manager "Lilly" in my opinion should not have a job in customer service . Lillly has her boyfriend at work with her a lot and if I would dare need her time to ask her something she would roll her eyes and have a bad attitude making me feel like I was doing something wrong. I had an employee with me one day and she aggressively came up to him shoving a trash bag in his face through the truck window and yelled for him to pick up trash. He had just gotten there for his first time ever and the trash was not from him. So he looked at her and said no especially with you being rude to me like that.she then starts yelling at him about how the trash wasn't there until we got the space there etc.....it's all recorded on my phone. She called the police on him because he wouldn't pick up the trash and he never got disrespectful in any kind of way. He then was given a criminal trespassing warning and I was given 5 days to pack my huge storage and leave!!! She also said I could only move my stuff out while she was there and if she decides to take a day off then that's a day less I have to move......and of coarse she took a day off. she did give me an "extra day" but I work her same hours how am I supposed to move especially when the only employee available to help was told he can't come on the property....Lilly also called the storage facility down the s andTold them that I was breaking into storage unit at that facility to not rent to me!!!! That's ILLEGAL!! I complained about this to customer service and they never contacted me back. I lost a lot of my belongings because someone is on a power trip given a job that she isn't ready for."
"This is by far THE BEST SELF STORAGE COMPANY of all time. Miss Stacy at the North Lamar location has been an absolute Godsend to us. We are unfortunately part of the homeless population that the city has basically forgotten, and if it weren't for Life Storage and their kind and compassionate personnel like Miss Stacy, I would have lost yet another storage unit like I have to two of their competitors. "I was treated very rudely today. I went in to pick up a package and find out why it wasn't put into my storage unit, a service they used to offer. I also asked about an email I had gotten saying the rent on one of my units had gone up. I asked how much it had gone up and she shrugged and made a face and said "I don't know; you got the email." Then she asked "do you want to close out one of your units?" I had reserved a new unit online this morning, but after today I would not be interested and asked her to cancel my reservation. She seemed very happy to lose my business. Very disappointing. I had been happy with the place when I first went there."
"This space is usually clean and better maintained than most. They have had two water issues, one HVAC-related in the other sprinkler system related. They immediately contacted me, and they're always so helpful. I've never been impacted thankfully, but I appreciate that they keep me posted. There are lots of choices when it comes to storage facilities, but I chose Life Storage not just for the the fair price, but especially because of the staff. "I rented a storage unit from Life Storage for several years paying $140+/per month for my space; Since, I live in a different city, I rarely visited the space outside of moving into it. On the weekend of June 12th 2020 I planned a trip to Austin to finally move my stuff out of the space which required equipment and moving labor for Austin and Houston which was the final destination. When I arrived at the storage on June 14th at 8:30 to meet my movers, I arrived to find that the lock on my unit had been replaced and I was never notified or provided a key. The company website specifically states "Our storage facilities offer daily access hours that extend from the early morning to late evening (even 24 hour access at some locations), and you will never need an appointment to access your things."; If I had known I needed an appointment I would have scheduled things differently.
Since it was a Sunday morning, no one was present on site because the location doesn't open on Sundays until noon; so I contacted the afterhours number listed on the door and explained the issue, to which the person I spoke with said it could take 24hrs to get a response. She also assured me it would at least be faster than that because the location opened in 3.5hrs, and an hour later I received a return call and was told that the location was trying to find someone to come to the location and help me with this issue. I never received any further calls and was forced to pay the movers I had booked for their time when they were not actually needed, and wait until the store opened at 12 noon. The four hour delay caused by the storage also made me waste money on my scheduled movers in Houston as well, because there was no way I could make it back to Houston in time for the 2 hours I had booked and paid for.
When the manager William Bird finally arrived at 12 noon he told me he was made aware there was an issue with my lock or unit and asked what was wrong. When I explained and we arrived at the unit he informed me that they hadn't done anything to my lock, this was the lock I put on my unit; It was baffling why there was doubt as to whether I had placed the lock on my unit when the unit next to mine had the exact same lock, but I reassured him again it wasn't my lock and showed him I have the key to the lock I put on my unit. He finally stated "Oh we did change all the doors and locks a few years ago; have you not been here in a while?" He preceded to tell me that renters were notified by email and keys were mailed out; if keys were returned because the letter was not signed for that the keys were in the file. He was unable to find the keys to my unit in my file or any proof that I was contacted in the computer. So after 4+hrs of waiting he told me I could either come back when/if he found the key or he could break the lock, I chose the latter option. He grabbed a tool bag and drilled the lock on the door breaking it; when we finally go into my unit my lock was sitting on the floor inside of the unit. The whole purpose of self-storage is to have access to your unit when you need it, I would have gotten a POD if I just wanted to store my things and have to contact someone to receive them.
To make matters worse apparently there was a rodent infestation in the building that I was never notified of, and most of the stuff in the unit was ruined or covered in rat droppings and urine. So essentially I could have saved time and money on movers, trucks, and monthly storage rentals, and the trip was unnecessary all together. To add insult to injury he offered me $20 and said that was all he could do I needed to speak with his manager Danny Stewart and provided me his phone number. I called and/or left a message three separate times and never heard back from him; on the last call I was finally able to reach him and explain my issue which he said he was made aware of but he needed to speak with William to see exactly what had happened and he would call me back probably tomorrow. Two days later I still had heard nothing so I called back and he stated he had forgotten and he still needed to speak with Williams; when he called me back he stated that the locks were changed and letters and keys were mailed out and when returned they were placed in my file. Which is untrue because if keys were placed in my file why did the lock have to be broken. He then proceeded to tell me that they got me in and out as fast as they could. When I explained the time and money wasted on this, he said you can send me the invoices, but essentially there is nothing I can do. So essentially I not only paid for a space I was physically unable to access for years, I also paid for a rodent infested storage unit to store useless to me because they were ruined, and the rat urine and feces created a possibly hazardous situation where I could have possibly contracted numerous diseases."

"My husband has rented a storage room and parking spot for about two years now. We have had no major issues up until recently. They staff has allowed for homeless people to live and camp right outside of storage units. Our storage unit was broken into and some of our items were stolen and the staff did not attempt to find out who was responsible and they did not follow up on the issue. They also do not want to take responsibility for their lack of security. Once our contract is over we will move on to another facility. I would not recommend this place to anyone!"

" We had a great experience with this Uncle Bob's [Life Storage]. I feel like they bent over backwards to help us. We had an issue with the lock and the door wasn't closed properly. They called to let us know and because we were out of the area they replaced the lock for us. We also had to be flexible with our move out date because of weather - I really appreciated the way they worked with us. However on most visits to the property we were forced to wait for the construction crew to move themselves, their vehicles, or their equipment out of the way to allow our vehicle to pass. Now that the whole parking lot and driveway have been paved, the workers are parking next to the building instead of using the parking spots causing a narrow path allowing only one vehicle to pass at a time although there is a two lane paved driveway. The current security guys (not the first security officer, he was great) but the current guys, are rude, abrupt, and borderline obnoxious and power tripping when we are coming on property."

I visited the unit last weekend and felt very unsafe. There is no fence, gate or anyone obviously watching the property. Two apparently homeless persons were in the parking lot, and I did not get out of the car until they left. There is no lock on the door to the climate-controlled units, and had I not had a man with me, I would NEVER have gone into that building alone, given the lack of security on the premises.
