"I don't understand why this place gets so many 5-star reviews, I almost suspect review padding. It's almost impossible to predictably access the office and thus access your storage unit.
The key complaint that I have is that the office is chronically closed due to zero staff being available. If the office is closed, you can't access your stuff. Obviously I knew this when signing up but I didn't realize how infrequently they staffed the office and ignored their posted business hours. Keep reading if you want full details (and somewhat of a rant), but if you need predictable access or can only go on weekends, this is not the place for you. I don't even consider myself someone who needs frequent access and I'm still having trouble getting in!
I signed up on May 6. At the time of this posting on May 28, I am STILL not completely moved into my unit due to how many problems I've had accessing my unit here. I've gone every weekend since signing up because I haven't wanted to take time off work to move my stuff into my unit and I've only been able to move in 2 out of 3 total car loads this entire time. At least I have the option to go on week days, many people rely on weekend access due to their job and the office is frequently closed on both Saturday and Sunday. They will frequently post on their door "closed due to short staff" and sometimes they may even give a few days written notice on their door. But other times, like today, they will be closed anyway with no notice and no posted date. Today as I drove by hoping to drop my final load of items off, I saw a large uhaul with a bunch of people out front who presumably wanted to move their stuff in today, but nope! Office was unexpectedly closed with no notice on their door. I can't imagine renting a truck, booking a date, asking for my friends time, etc only to have the office unexpectedly closed and having to both extend my trucks rental (which is not cheap!) and try to rearrange moving plans. I have no idea what the situation is with staffing but it's bad.
Assuming they fix their staffing issues, it's a pretty reasonable place. Their manager Melissa (and I assume lone employee) is friendly and helpful, the place is clean, and they have 2 huge loading docks for large trucks and to keep you covered if the weather is bad. That's the main reason this place gets a 2/5 instead of a 1/5. I'd love to give it a good review but I simply cannot access it with any reliability or frequency."
"The fact that I pay $200 a month for a storage unit but cannot access my storage unit between the hours of 8:30AM -5PM EST as indicated online and on the door of this location is infuriating. Today I rented a Uhaul truck and drove to this location to access my unit. I arrived to the location at 4PM. When I arrived the location was closed prior to 5PM EST. Due to staffing shortages. This is by far one or the worst customer experiences I’ve had. Not only did I lose money on renting the truck - but this was the only time I had free to access my unit in order to get my stove out of storage to replace my old stove which has stopped working.
It’s not my fault as a paying customer that there are staffing!
If I am being debited every month on the due date without fail - I expect to have access to my storage unit during normal business hours!!
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

"Steals money directly out of the pockets of its employees... the same ones that put in their two weeks' notice and served them out rather than just ghosting the company that just sold them out.
They were just purchased by Extra Space storage - I would steer clear of both, as they both rely on a predatory pricing model that involves hiking the price repeatedly until a customer finally decides they can't pay, then renting the space out at a discount and repeating the cycle.
They do not care about fixing obvious issues, such as their payment portal breaking down and double charging customers any time a payment is made late at night or in the early morning, or the fact that a customer who makes a late payment will still be charged a late fee and potentially get a lien placed against the contents of their space because Life Storage's website doesn't add the pro-rated insurance fee onto the total when it's calculated on the site, but their system still sees the lack of insurance and continues tacking on late fees (an issue they've been aware of for YEARS)
They treat store managers like spark plugs - Nameless and faceless, yet constantly under ridiculous pressure to sell, sell, sell! - This applies *especially* to customers who have expressed disinterest in their offerings.
They literally have it baked into their trainings to push customers past their limits, and when the customer complains, to let them sit there and think through what a pain in the backside moving out would be, and then let the store teams take the heat from people who are desperate to keep their possessions and really cannot afford rate hikes.
This company is scummy from the top down. AVOID!"

"I've had stuff in storage at this Life Storage facility for about three years now and never had a problem, but I did today and it's enough that I will be leaving this facility and Life Storage as soon as I can.
Like many of us I have a busy life and I need to be able to do certain things at certain times. One of those things is access storage on the weekends. At this facility you can ONLY access your unit when the "office" is open. Today I planned my weekend around getting things from storage on Saturday, but when I showed up half an hour after the posted opening time (which I had checked) the door was locked and the sign said CLOSED. I called the "emergency" number (which is just their customer service line) and was told, after first being told that this location was open, that the "manager" had called in sick and the location wouldn't be open at all today.
No beef with the manager, we all get sick and deserve time off when we are, but I do have a beef with Life Storage for not paying their staff enough to have enough depth on the bench to find someone to open today. Now I don't even know of they will be open tomorrow since the same solitary person might be sick then.
I would be less peeved if they didn't raise the rent every few months, and if I hadn't read recently that their CEO was paid $4,400,000 (yes $4.4 MILLION) last year.
So, with apologies to the sick employee, and the very nice customer service person I spoke to, this is the beginning of the end of my relationship with Life Storage, and I'd not recommend them to anyone else."

"The store manager Jillian is such a sweet lady! My dad and I rented the Life Storage truck when I was moving my things out of UB and I was running late. I called Jillian and she was completely accommodating. She understood and even joked about how this happens with the college kids often.
Then in August, I couldnt get my belongings out of storage by the 31st, so Jillian told me about the 5 day policy and I was able to keep my things a few extra days. She even called me on the 4th to remind me. I appreciated my experience with her and I just thank her for assisting me the way she did. =O<þ=O<þ

"The first thing is the price keeps changing for the unit and when I ask why they say they're get back to me NEVER did. The second thing is and just wait for it we had missed a payment ok not the end of the world so we ask how much it was going be so we can get it paid the following month and here's the kicker it was the wrong price and didn't tell us and ACCEPTED a partial payment which there not supposed to do in order to collect more late fee's.
