We at Life Storage want to maintain the best storage facilities in Costa Mesa, and in every city where we do business.
Take a look at all the good things our customers say about this Life Storage, and all of our stores! It thrills us to give customers the best customer service possible, and to hear when they are pleased with how we have taken care of their storage needs.
"I was researching prices of storage facilities in the Orange County area this morning, and Life Storage in Costa Mesa, California (the one referenced in this review) was listed at $378 with a discount price of $327 for a 10x10!!!! They claimed it was due to "high demand in this area." There is no possible way that this filthy, crime ridden, homeless encampment, skid row level, rip off "business" is in demand in any way whatsoever. And it is DEFINITELY not worth $327, it isn't worth $30. Unless you have some strange desire to pay someone to steal everything you own, then feel free and waste your money here. Although you could save yourself a headache by just going to any other crackhead hangout spot and have your belongings stolen for free. Whoever decided on that price must have smoked whatever the random vagrants that visit the facility left behind. The property has NO working cameras, it's PITCH BLACK outside at night, no onsite security, completely useless "gatecodes" because you never have to type your code because the gate is either stuck open or people open it for you. The elevators don't require these codes, it's a giant free for all. The workers are so lazy they literally NEVER walk the property so it's one of the favorite "come up" locations in Orange County. Since the employees don't give two sh**s about your property and it's safety that you are falsely promised, they never notice the dozens of cut locks, damaged doors, smashed in, broken open and emptied for months. They also fail to clean up the dead rats that can be randomly found on the floor, or spray for all the roaches scattering around. FAILURE IN EVERY WAY, HUGE SCAM, THIEVES, CRIMINALS. When I saw the new price of $327 and their claim of being "in high demand" all of a sudden I laughed so hard, it was mind blowing."
"Can't say good enough things about this storage facility and the staff working there. A pleasure to work with, everyone was very helpful and explained all terms clearly. The facility is immaculate and the location felt safe. I will definitely never go anywhere else, and you shouldn't either!"
"I went around looking for storage places to store a few bins I had that didn’t fit in my current garage. This was my first time looking to renting one and had seen and stopped by a few others around my area but Life Storage was the one I chose.
Walking through the door I was greeted by Samantha and another associate of hers and they were so kind and helpful. They went over everything with me in detail, gave me a preview of how big my unit was and also were super accommodating on anything else I needed to make this process an easy one.
Looks like they have a new building coming in with more storage units, going through the gates to get to the bays the road seems to be a bit under construction with all the gravel but I had no issues once getting inside. Their facility was well kept and I did not see any trash or other alarming red flags to make me second guess leaving my belongings here."

"Andrew and Samantha provided us with the best moving experience I ever had! Between the van, the deal that life storage had, and the clean facilities, I cannot recommend this place enough! They were very friendly and responsive. If I need a storage facility again I will 100% be returning!"
"Love the hospitality when getting a unit for storage definitely will recommend they have great hours the whole process from reserving a unit on the phone from coming in person the experience was amazing and friendly."
"Samantha (Store Manager), Andrew Ashley and Eric Youdes were all awesome. I love my new LifeStorage over the last Extra Space Storage I had. I highly recommend it here. The customer service is great"
"Life Storage in Costa Mesa is like the "skid row" of the Orange County Self Storage industry. It is the favorite hang out spot for all the homeless drug users and criminals in the area, many of whom either camp out in their vehicle overnight or they walk in through the deteriorating chain-link fence bordering the perimeter (75% of these vagrants don't even have a storage unit there!). I would never rent a space from this hellhole again, not even if they paid me to. I can't express in words how disgusting, how disappointing, and how shady Life Storage truly is. It's one of my biggest regrets in life storing my belongings at this location. I wish someone was there to warn me before it was too late, and this is my warning to you: DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE! DO NOT listen to the suspicious dishonest employees, the company's website filled with dozens of false promises (it's a scam). You'd be much happier finding a storage space literally ANYWHERE else in California...
They claim to have "excellent security measures" and to "do everything possible to protect you and your valuables." This statement is 1,000% false, it is so unbelievable Life Storage would even promise these amenities (it's truly laughable!) I can confirm that the "digital surveillance system/ best quality of video" they advertise DOESN'T exist. They have a couple of cheap cameras that are all pointed at the ceiling or simply do not work at all (the camera near my unit didn't ever work properly for the entire time I rented a unit there). The "password protected gate" is nice in theory, but every single gate in this shithole is ALWAYS JAMMED OPEN so no code is necessary. In addition to the terrible "workers" that are employed at Life Storage, there are also cut locks, kicked/dented in doors, broken glass, trash everywhere, and of course dead rats (One literally sat in the same spot smushed on the floor for almost 6 months). Another thing to disregard from their website: "No matter where you are at our storage facilities, you can count on proper lighting. Every property and building is designed with adequate lighting to provide a safe, well-lit environment. Exterior lighting is designed to illuminate the property and deter trespassing." Once the sun goes down it is literally pitch black in the parking lot (they have one exterior light that barely works and it's way in the back of the property far from any doorways. If I was walking to my car at night I literally thought I might get stabbed or robbed. So sketchy. Meth heads everywhere hiding in the shadows (literally found a meth pipe in a little hole someone made in the wall out by the parking spaces).
You should know the truth before spending your hard earned money at this run down crime ridden establishment. Unfortunately, my 9x10 unit was burglarized before I even paid my first bill. I had everything I owned in this unit at the time, and they took almost everything (80% of my belongings)---all my sentimental/priceless items that no amount of money can replace. I also have an online retail business and I kept my inventory in my storage unit--- it was all stolen. Thousands of designer, unique/one of a kind, rare, vintage items ranging from handbags, shoes, jewelry, electronics, sports memorabilia, art supplies, etc. Along with all my personal items-- a ton of my favorite shoes, my hat collection, ALL MY JEWELRY even a beautiful Aquamarine ring I received for graduation. A bunch of cute dorky handmade gifts my husband and I had hand made for each other over the years (jewelry box, art projects, jewelry). It was valued at $8,000 loss on the low end minus the stuff the shitty "insurance" they provide to you doesn't cover such as jewelry or other high end items. After informing the "manager" I had been to my unit the night before the theft and the night after (I requested video surveillance of the 12 hour window the theft must have occurred in) they blew me off, shrugged their shoulders, and claimed they didn't have any video footage. Then they gave my FUCKING BILL. They charged me after this. The only solution they half-ass offered to me was to allow us to "move into another unit" if we wanted to. SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISRESPECTFUL. Makes me sick. Please, don't make the same mistake I made.... RUN FOR THE HILLS! DO NOT give this shady establishment your hard earned cash and don't let them rob you blind or scam you out of your belongings. It's not worth the slightly lower price tag. Trust me."
"Wow, this place is really great because its managed by really great people! Samantha was an awesome person to deal with and made the process of both securing a unit and eventually parting ways when I no longer needed it a cinch! Would highly recommend this to anyone. Lot is also monitored 24/7 which is great piece of mind."
"It is clear since we started renting our space that new management is in place and I got to see that first hand when I met the new manager, Samantha! I almost did not rent my space in July 2020 because there was human feces in the stairwell as the then manager showed me the unit. It was too late to change our minds as our movers were on their way. Now, it is the place it should have been. I am disappointed to read such a review on Samantha as I had the exact opposite experience."
"Samantha the SM was great, funny, and helpful! Stopped by with my boyfriend to check out our reservation & she made our time there enjoyable. 😄 had us laughing the whole time. 10/10 experience"
"This place is filthy. Example: a water bottle filled with a yellow liquid and left in the elevator for several days. You can guess what the liquid was. Along with assorted other trash such as fast food bags, soda cups, etc. Trash around the entry area, in elevator, and hallways.
I am leaving as soon as possible. No wonder they have roach and rat traps everywhere."
"Samantha Bixby was incredibly helpful during my experience checking in at the Costa Mesa location. I was given incorrect information prior to my arrival to the facility from the central reservations team and Samantha went above and beyond to correct those errors and provide a solution which ended up being better than my original option. She did so with a great attitude and helpfulness that was extremely appreciated. Thank you, Samantha!"
"This place has really gone downhill since it changed hands from Magellan Storage to Life Storage. All of a sudden there's price increases every year, and not just little price increases. You might think that with price increases you'd be getting a better facility but that's not the case. There's always trash scattered throughout the facility now (inside and outside) because all the trash cans/dumpsters have been removed The push carts that used to be provided as a convenience have been taken away. Storage units are getting broke into often, might have something to do with the fact that the gate doesn't always work. Luckily my unit has only gotten broken into once in which apparently bandits broke into a whole bunch of storage units, unfortunately many things were stolen, things exceeding several thousand dollars. At least they have cameras there right? Well, yes they have some but good luck trying to get them to actually go through the footage or getting them to try to prosecute the criminals, not gonna happen. The door on my unit remains damaged and difficult to use after about a year and there's no interest in them fixing it nor all the other units that remain damaged. And if you need customer service, good luck trying to get a hold of anyone as they really cut down their staff so there is only 1 person working there at a time (even pre-Covid), that person can't be in the office often because they have other things to do around the facility. Couple other things that don't happen anymore that used to happen during Magellan Storage, complimentary food trucks for tenants once in a while, garage sales. Should I talk about all the rat poop that covers everything now? They do have a great location though? So 2 stars"
"I would give this place zero stars if possible even go negative since they hired a new manager and got rid of the guy who actually took pride in what he did.
I was informed by Nicolas that they accidentally sold my unit. When I confronted Samantha about this her attitude was so cavalier and blasé you would think she was deciding what she was going to order at Starbucks or contemplating the time it takes for paint to dry.
You accidentally sell my things without any notice, you refused to help me get my stuff back, you make empty promise after empty promise and yet I should be grateful? It's practically impossible to even get a return phone call from anyone at this location or even the area manager whom calls from a blocked number doesn't fulfill her promises real professional right?
You do not care that my identity was stolen because of your inept manger and total negligence. You've made no effort to get my birth certificate Social Security card credit card debit cards and mail back inside the unit contains all of my clothing other than the clothes on my back? Is it normal that you have not extended any sort of courtesy for your total ineptitude and negligence.
I highly advise to stay away from this place. Samantha is as useless as the pimple on my ass, particularly as she told me "that's just life storage" As an explanation for why she didn't call me back.
Samantha makes empty promises in order to use theft by deception in order to defraud you and steal possessions. I'm certain once she realized what was in there after entering and cutting off my lock without any notice or even a phone call.
Can you imagine having your entire wardrobe except for what you're wearing gone? All of your legal documents gone, personal and private information in the hands of other people, your medical records family photos etc.?
Replacement value of my wardrobe alone is close to $100,000 I'm sure Samantha's partner is enjoying the custom-made Brioni suits? The 14 pairs of Ferragamo shoes? Yes I know size 13 doesn't make them easy to sale or wear however they were mine not yours to begin with! Then how about the two dozen custom-made shirts from Saks fifth Avenue? Personally, I like the French cuffs with my silver cuff links and the Pannerai watch... The countless luxury and designer items from Zegna, Brioni, Pucci, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermès etc... You realize I needed theses things to go to work?
Valentino slacks that I just bought, or the D squared and Moschimo items with the tags still on them? How about those Brunello Cucinelli sweaters? And all my dirty underwear despite being from 2 Exist they were mostly dirty as I hadn't done laundry in weeks that's why there was a new box of laundry detergent next to them. Did you like the Giuseppe Zanotti shoes? You realize that those were almost $2k? Thanks Samantha for all of the problems you've caused me. It's not like I didn't have enough on my plate already.
And to whomever has my things you should also think Samantha, because many of those new items would not be there if it hadn't been for her suggesting I put more items inside right before she "accidentally" sold I mean stole I mean sold everything.
Whoever has my things are you enjoying coffee from the new never used or opened Technivorm coffee maker, i'm sure you already discovered the Kona coffee that was $100 a pound and the coffee grinder....
There also was the Tumi luggage, the Louis Vuitton luggage, bedding and linens, two bikes of which one was a carbon fiber Specialized valued at $6k less than a year old, all different Apple products, i'm glad you're enjoying the latest technology they offer and some very expensive odds and ends I've kept to remind myself of certain places and people.
So you lie, you screw up, and you want me to take the loss? What a great position to take when you destroy someone's life in a fairly epic manner like this. I guess the law doesn't matter to you and given what you've done and shown me by threatening to have me arrested for trespassing when I attempted to make a police report shows you have no work ethic which everyone already knows but you are also potentially a sociopath and I know according to you it's not your problem...
Make sure you do as much cover-up as you can in order to justify these egregious "accidents" Samantha
Ironically the area manager informed me There was no late charges or any extra types of fees due to Covid and you knew this all along, yet you lied as I waited for a call for 2 months as I checked in at least every other week sometimes daily... yet why when I was there two weeks prior and I saw my lock missing you told me that nobody had broken in that you had cut the lock off and insisted that I put more items in the unit.
Theft is wrong no matter how you justify it and Samantha Bixby Life Storage as well as the auction company that didn't do their due diligence are all guilty of theft by conversion"
"Samantha was very nice to talk to she help me find the right storage unit and she was very informative about everything. Since she started running the store it has been a lot cleaner and organized. Just wanted to say in my opinion she's a good manager. Thanks Samantha."
"Extremely friendly, reliable & dependable service. Samantha the store manager is fantastic to work with!!
Great Hours to access your storage unit. Clean facility. Highly recommend life storage!!"
"Stay away from this storage
They are not safe at all. I got my vehicle stolen from this property. Store manager was totally unprofessional and they she treated me was unacceptable"
"The same office staff is rarely at the office and never pick up the phone. I have to wait minimum of 20-30 min every time I'm here, just to borrow a cart. Furthermore, there are many rat traps all over the inside the storage area. Bad management."

"Prices go up a lot. Moved to a new place closer to home. Noticed the front office a month in advance that we would be moving out and were told that we did it perfectly and would have no problem with no more payments coming out and just notify them again when we are out. End of January we let them know we are all out and cleaned. A week later.....they took money out. Called left a message NOTHING, sent an email from their site.....NOTHING!!! Do not rent here, they steal your money!!!"
"Great location. Terrible customer service. There is no way to get a hold of anyone in corporate and if you call the local office most of the time they don't answer or return your call. I've been having technical difficulty with their website for weeks and their IT person will not call me back. I email and call every day."
"Returned to our storage units after about a year to find all aspects of the site as run down and dirty as I have seen it in the eight years we have had the units. The elevator's sluggish operation was concerning as well. What I had previously considered a well maintained site has now become a run of the mill sketchy storage operation."
"I accidentally maid a payment on the wrong unit and tried to resolve this issue. I spoke to Marco the property manager and he said he would handle it. A week and a half later still nothing done. I was frustrated because obviously he didn't do his job. When I said that he became hotty and said that I created extra work for him. Excuse me! Things happen on accident and you promised me that you would handle it. He hangs up on me and says if I go there to resolve it that he would contact the police. What!? My business stuff is in there. I'm not late. I am going to file a police report on the property!!! This is crazy! He lied saying they don't have a regional manager and found out they do. Big mess! I would never in my life talk to my customers the way he did. He needs to get fired! Hotty man with a major attitude problem. The previous property manager was more professional. Heaven forbid you make one mistake online for your unit. BBB should be contacted in this case since they list it on their site. I cannot store my business stuff in there with the way they handle their ghetto customer service attitude. Stay away from this place! Customer service is impossible to deal with. Just a big warning from a business owner."
"This entire facility is infested with mice, rats and possibly bed bugs. I've been a customer for 10 years, when it was originally Magellan Storage the place was immaculate . Then it became "Uncle Bobs"storage and got more expensive. Now it's "Life Storage"but it should really be called "Life Sucks Storage". All my stuff is covered in mouse droppings and rodent urine. I"ll have to throw out most of it and find another place. They don't have garbage pails or a dumpster on the property. So now I have to put all that nasty stuff in my car. It's also super expensive. I saw mice scampering out of a lockea few doors away . Even though there's mouse traps all over the place it's still infested. Remember that old movie called "Willard" about a guy who was into hoarding pet rats? He would be in heaven if he had a unit at Life Sucks Storage. Can't wait to get out of there !"
"Infested with Mice and Filthy ! This facility used to be clean and great before Life Storage took over . Now it’s disgusting . I saw a mouse scurrying into one of the units and there are dead ones everywhere . All my stuff is covered in mouse droppings and rodent urine — and I have to throw it out . Gross. There’s broken glass in the hall, dead mice and vandalized lockers. I should sue them ."
